How To Cope With Uncertainty Of What’s Next
Hey Dream Achievers!
With everything going on in the world right now, lots of us are struggling with the uncertainty of what’s coming next.
Things have changed at a rapid speed. I don’t think that life is going to go back to the way that it used to be and that’s probably for the best.
Who would have thought that Covid-19 would have happened the way it did and that things would be shifting the way that they are?
Today, I wanted to share some ways we can work through this time of uncertainty.
What causes uncertainty?
Change brings uncertainty. Change brings us into space where we can elevate, grow, and come up to the next level by stepping outside of our comfort zones.
However, for many of us going through life's changes, there can be times when we feel lost, confused, and stuck in uncertainty.
We are so used to structure and a step by step approach to most of the things in our lives.
This uncertainty is similar to how I felt after graduating from university.
From a young age you move from step to step in the school system, until you graduate university. That’s when the uncertainty kicks in and it becomes unclear what’s next.
Covid has sparked that in similar feeling. Up until recently, we knew we had to go to work on Monday, there were tasks to do and sales to be made. Now that structure and certainty have been taken away.
We don’t have anyone to tell us how to work through this, we are in the hands of the big decisions made by the government and there’s no way to know what’s coming next.
When we are stuck in uncertainty, it feels uncomfortable, and it takes a lot of energy to feel scared, frustrated, and confused.
So, what are some ways we can work through this uncertain time?
Let Go of Control
When we are stuck in uncertainty, we are trying to control things that are out of our control. We are trying to create “the perfect plan” while we adjust.
As we are going outside of our comfort zone, our ego is trying to control us and keep us in our “safety zone.”
Staying in our comfort zone doesn’t allow space for expansiveness, for us to embrace change and make the most of it for ourselves and our lives.
To make the shift from a contracted, uncertain mindset of scarcity to an expansive, growth mindset you need to keep a few things in mind.
We have to let go of control.
We can try all we want to control it, but there is a more divine plan in place. Trust the divine plan!
It’s important to let go of control. Let go of anything that’s trying to over plan and over perfect and start taking everything one day at a time AND embrace it.
Choose to be in a state of embracing and enjoying the process.
Go with the flow, one thing at a time, and try not to resist things as they come up.
How do I let go of control?
A simple way to let go of control is to just get into joy.
Ask yourself how you can find joy and have fun at this moment. Focus on the simple moments in life that bring you joy and do more of that every day. Then naturally clarity will come your way.
When we are stuck in uncertainty two things can be happening.
We can try to rewrite the past by thinking all of those should have, could have, would have thoughts or try to over plan the future.
Plans and goals are important, but having every step mapped out can be a slippery slope, because like we are experiencing now with COVID, life will throw things at you and you have to be open to that.
When I chose to let go of control and chose to get present and take things one day at a time that’s when things fell into place for me.
Because I wasn’t spending time thinking about how I can rewrite the past or making the perfect plan for the future. I was embracing every moment, letting go of the control, being present.
Say Yes to Possibilities
Sometimes we can be scared of the question marks, the unknown. We can either choose to let fear control us and we can hide, or we can get into a state of expansion and say yes to possibilities.
Get in the frame of mind to say yes. Yes, to a zoom call with friends. Yes, to an online workout class. Yes, to a free guide you can download. Yes, to things that take you out of your comfort zone.
Growth doesn’t happen when you are comfortable.
When you say yes to opportunities that are outside of your comfort zone, that’s when the incredible things start happening for you. Life starts gifting you with things you never imagined.
For example, I went to a seminar. I had never been to one before, but my friend suggested to me. I went to go check it out not expecting anything.
That seminar is where I enrolled in my first set of self-development courses and met so many amazing people.
That’s when I started my journey to where I am today as an intuitive life coach, author, and speaker.
This blog wouldn’t have existed, if I didn't go to that seminar, if I didn't read my first personal development book, if I didn’t meet people by going to a networking event where I met my first business partner, life wouldn’t have given me the clarity that I was seeking and I wouldn’t be talking to you right now.
If you are having this moment of uncertainty, question marks and you’re seeking clarity, keep these things in mind:
Let go of control and embrace the journey, have fun along the way.
Be present, let go of what you should have done or could have done, let go of creating the perfect plan for the future.
Choose possibilities. Say yes to things that are outside of your comfort zone.
If you do these things you will be so surprised by the amount of clarity that’s going to come your way, how you’re going to be aligned with your purpose, have more joy and fulfillment in life, and be gifted with the beauty that is life.
